
Apple chips
These apple chips are not just a delicious dessert but also an ideal snack for healthy food lovers. They crunch in your mouth without leaving any greasy marks as they are made without a single drop of oil. The light acidity of lemon juice not only prevents the apples from browning but also adds freshness to them. The combination with sweet cinnamon gives an aroma of a magical garden on an autumn day. Add a pinch of ground ginger or cardamom to the cinnamon for a spicier aroma. Instead of sugar, use stevia or coconut sugar if you are controlling sugar intake. Make salty chips: do not add sugar, but sprinkle with a pinch of salt and ground rosemary.
Slice the apples as thinly and evenly as possible so that the chips dry simultaneously. To make the chips truly crunchy, let them cool completely on a rack. Do not rush to increase the temperature: slow drying better dehydrates the apples inside.
Use firm, juicy apples of sweet-and-sour varieties, as they hold their shape and provide a rich flavor. Lemon juice prevents apples from darkening and adds a light tang. Cinnamon should be freshly ground or from a good spice mix for a brighter aroma.
Ensure that slices do not overlap, otherwise, they will dry unevenly. Drying time may vary in different ovens, base it on the degree of crispiness. Store ready chips only after full cooling, otherwise, moisture may accumulate inside.

Preparation steps

Prepare the oven and baking tray — Preheat the oven to 80°C, line the baking tray with parchment paper. Time: 5 min. Reference: The tray is fully covered with parchment, the oven is heating up.

Wash and prepare the apples — Thoroughly wash the apples, peel them if desired, and remove the core. Time: 7 min. Reference: The apples are clean, without seeds and tough core parts.

Slice the apples thinly — Slice the apples very thinly into circles or wedges about 2–3 mm thick. Time: 8 min. Reference: All slices are of approximately the same thickness, without large pieces.

Prepare lemon water — Mix water with lemon juice in a deep bowl, optionally add a pinch of salt. Time: 3 min. Reference: The liquid is homogeneous, lemon juice is evenly dissolved in water.

Protect apples from browning — Submerge the apple slices in lemon water for 3–5 minutes, then remove and pat dry with a towel. Time: 7 min. Reference: The surface of the apples is moist but without excess liquid, the color is light without browning.

Lay the apples on the tray and sprinkle with spices — Spread the apple slices in a single layer on the tray, mix sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle lightly on top. Time: 5 min. Reference: Apples do not touch each other, the surface is evenly covered with a thin layer of cinnamon sugar.

Tip: To keep apple chips crunchy for several weeks, store them in a glass jar with a tight lid in a dry, cool place and do not open the container unnecessarily to prevent moisture absorption from the air.
