Preparation steps

Prepare the apples (10 minutes). Wash, peel and core them, then cut them into thin slices or cubes.

Whisk the eggs with sugar (7–8 minutes). Whisk the eggs with sugar and vanilla sugar using a mixer until you get a fluffy, light mixture.

Combine the dry ingredients (2 minutes). In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt.

Knead the dough (3 minutes). Carefully add the flour mixture to the egg mixture, stirring with a spatula until smooth.

Prepare the baking dish (2 minutes). Grease the dish with butter and optionally line the bottom with parchment paper.

Layer the apples and batter (3 minutes). Spread half of the apples on the bottom of the dish, pour the batter over them, and arrange the remaining apples on top.

Bake (35 minutes). Place in a preheated oven at 180 °C (350 °F) and bake until golden brown. Check with a wooden skewer — it should come out dry.

Cool and serve (5 minutes). Let the cake cool slightly, remove from the dish, slice, and serve with tea or coffee.
