Product description from producer

Tamnavulin (Gaelic for 'mill on the hill') was founded in 1966 by Tamnavulin-Glenivet Distillery Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Invergordon Distillers Ltd. "In 1993 Tamnavulin became the property of Whyte & Mackay and in 1995 whisky production was halted. The new owners decided to improve production and restart the distillery. It took 12 years to modernise the distillery and in 2007 the updated single malt Tamnavulin was presented to the world. Today Tamnavulin distillery is a modern distillery situated in the heart of Speyside and is able to produce 4 million litres of spirits a year. The distillery is equipped with its own malting systems, eight fermenting vats and three pairs of distillation stills.

Whisky is stored in two tiered warehouses and the total aging fleet consists of 35,000 barrels. The oldest spirits in storage are signed 1967. Water for the production of the spirits is used from underground sources, while the cooling water comes from the River Livet. All processes at the distillery are managed by Gareth Morgan. An experienced team of 12 people work under his direction.

Features of the technology. The production of Tamnavulin whisky is done by the so called combined aging method. Most of the time the whisky matures in bourbon casks and the final maturation takes place in Sherry casks. Thanks to the combined aging, the whisky has a unique character: the aroma is dominated by notes of dried fruit, spices and vanilla, while the taste is distinguished by a good combination of fruity notes with notes of sultanas, chocolate and citrus.
