Product description from producer
Seeds of millet are obtained from the grain-bearing plant by separation of the corn from its floral films and a germ. The colour of the seeds is yellow, of different shades. Depending on the quality of the meal, presence or absence of weeds and other factors of importance rubbed millet falls into the highest, the 1st and 2nd sorts. Millet has got the smallest seed among the cereals, but its seed is the firmest. The seed is surrounded by the silicon cover which always needs to be extracted because it cannot be digested by the organism. "TERRA" produces only premium millet. There are several lines of reasoning as for the origin of the word "millet". According to one of the versions, it originates from the Slovene word “pir”, meaning "wild-growing wheat, polba”. The word “polba” (“полба” in Russian spelling) is also well-known in Russian culture and was once used by the outstanding Russian poet A.S.Pushkin in his "Fairy Tale About the Priest and His Worker Balda": "…and to eat give me boiled polba …". The native land of millet is the South East Asia where it grew up long before our era. Dishes from millet were the basic foodstuff in Asia, but with the introduction of rice food preferences changed in favour of the latter. From Asia millet has gradually moved to Slavic territories and to Europe. According to the results of archeological excavations, millet was found on the territories of European states as early as about 3,000BC. Millet is one of the most health-giving grains. It contains considerable quantity of protein (12%), 2,9% of fats, 64,8% of carbohydrates. In millet there are lots of vitamins of group C, as well as potassium, zinc, sodium, iodine, magnesium, bromine, phosphorus and folic acid. Millet seeds contain amino acids and microelements necessary for maintaining normal condition of the skin. Millet porridges give force, strengthen muscles, treat liver, speed up wounds healing, and help the fractured bones to knit. Dishes from millet are recommended for those who suffer from diabetes, heart diseases, and as a preventive measure against problems with digestion. Dishes made of millet are indispensable to all those who live in an unfriendly environment, since in millet there are substances which can bind ions of heavy metals and take various toxins out of the organism. Doctors-dieticians highly recommend millet gruel to people, who take antibiotics, because in such a way products of decomposition of antibiotics can be easily taken out. Dishes from millet can also be regarded as important sources of polyvitamins, and therefore they are health-giving to adults and children.
