India, Indochina and Thailand are considered the homeland of rice, where it began to be cultivated as a crop more than 7 thousand years ago. Unlike Europe, to which rice was brought after the campaigns of Alexander the Great, in Russia the first rice crops appeared only in the 17th century by order of Peter the Great. The word “rice” itself came into use in Russia only at the end of the 19th century; before that it was called Saracen grain or Saracen wheat. In terms of nutritional value, rice is superior to cereal plants. It has a high carbohydrate content and high energy value. It contains a lot of phosphorus, magnesium and vitamin PP, a moderate amount of protein, potassium and iron, as well as dietary fiber.
