While celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at a local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summers meets a modest woman named Josie Fair. It turns out that Josie is also celebrating her fortieth birthday. A few days later, their paths cross again. After listening to Alix's podcasts, Josie decides that she might be able to interest listeners in her story and says that she is on the verge of a big change.

Josie's life seems strange and complicated, and although Alix is confused by her character's behavior, she can't resist the temptation to continue the podcast. Gradually, she realizes that Josie is hiding some very dark stories. But Josie has already managed to infiltrate Alix's life - and her home.

However, the woman disappears as suddenly as she appeared. It is only then that Alix learns that Josie has left behind something terrifying, and realizes that she has become the subject of her own true-crime podcast. She and her family are in mortal danger.
