Elizabeth Lim Six Crimson Cranes Book

Shiori'anma, the only princess of Kiata, has a secret. Forbidden magic runs in her veins. On the morning of her betrothal ceremony, Shiori loses control of it. At first, this mistake seems like a stroke of luck that postponed such an unwanted wedding. However, the magic also draws the attention of her stepmother, Raikama.
Raikama, a sorceress herself, banishes her stepdaughter and turns her brothers into cranes. She warns Shiori that for every word that leaves her lips, one of her brothers will die.
Penniless, voiceless, and alone, Shiori searches for her brothers and uncovers a dark conspiracy surrounding the throne. Only Shiori can set the kingdom right. To do so, she must trust a paper bird, a fickle dragon, and the very boy she fought so hard not to marry. She must also embrace the magic she was taught to suppress all her life — no matter the cost.
