Description
Svitlana Povaliayeva’s new collection of poems is a complex blend of vignettes from life behind the lines and at the front. War, love, constant waiting, hope, loss. Steppes and trenches, the deceptive comfort of home and the whistling of rockets overhead, defenders and enemies. Friends and foes. A macabre story we live through every day. A time we did not choose. A land we are ready to hold on to until our dying breath. Losses that make your jaw drop. ‘War is not a triumph, but simply life as it is.’
‘Variable cloud with sunny spells’ is dedicated to Svitlana’s youngest son, Roman Ratushny. He took part in the battles for Kyiv and in the liberation of the Kyiv region, helped free Trostianets and fought in the Sumy region. He was killed in action near Izium on 8 June 2022.
‘I will love you until the end of my days, my dearest — may all my poems be yours, may people remember you in this way too — whenever they open this book,’ — Svitlana Povaliayeva.
Number of pages: 192.
