Every morning on the way to school, Philip, Flo, and Carolina stop by a small candy store in Dead End No. 23. There they buy treats from Leo (the so-called owner) to enjoy during breaks between classes. Criminal police commissioner Lars also goes to the said candy shop every morning. He is also a terrible sweet tooth, and he likes sweets with licorice the most. However, they are united not only by a love of sweets, but also by a passion for investigating the most complicated crimes. The "Licorice" detective team, as they call themselves, even have their own office where they meet - a dovecote under the roof of Leo's candy store.
