The events described by Vasyl Makhno in his debut collection of short prose take place at different times and on different continents, but no matter whose story is written - a man in his fifties, an elderly widow or a little boy - you believe them. After all, the stories are devoid of any authorial generalizations, conclusions or instructions. These are unbiased stories about the fate of completely different people, honest and devoid of pathos. But it is honesty and apparent simplicity that astonishes this prose, familiar at first glance and unpretentious details add mystery and do not let the reader go from the first to the last page.
