Description
"Callsign
'Banderas'" is a real war action novel based on true events. The
book is based on the diaries of National Guard soldier Serhiy Bashkov, callsign
"Indian," and other warriors of the 93rd Brigade who defend peace in
eastern Ukraine. The plot of this military detective story unfolds in the
autumn of 2014. Scouts led by Captain Anton Sayenko (callsign
"Banderas") attempt to prevent a sabotage attack and neutralize a
Russian saboteur. Adding drama to the events are the setting—everything takes
place near Banderas's native village, which he left 20 years ago—along with
love and betrayal. What is a person willing to do for love? Love for one's
country, one's home, the people nearby... love for life itself? The thought
that young men are dying on the front lines in the standoff against separatists
and terrorists never leaves the main character. But then fate hands the former
SBU officer a new chance... And this time, he will have to conquer his greatest
fears and look back into the memories he had been running from for nearly two
decades...
The main characters have real prototypes among ATO veterans, some of whom, unfortunately, lost their lives. The book was adapted into a movie of the same name released in late 2018, which received a "Golden Dzyga" award.
