Description
The granadilla fruit is a popular exotic fruit from the passion fruit family. It is related to passion fruit and bears an external resemblance to it. Grenadilla fruits are egg-shaped, ripe fruits reach a diameter of 8-12 cm. The average weight of the fruit is 100-110 g. The rind of the fruit is thin and smooth to the touch, but quite hard. The color of the rind can vary from yellow to orange or red. In ripe fruits, small black spots appear on the rind. The flesh of the pomegranadilla is edible - it has an almost transparent jelly-like texture with black soft seeds inside.
The pomegranadilla is native to South America. In Colombia, Bolivia and other countries of this region it is found in wild form. The cultivation of this fruit has recently become widespread in Haiti, Hawaii and Jamaica.
