Udon noodles are prepared using wheat flour and are in demand not only in Asia, but also in other countries. Previously, udon was classified as a semi-finished product for soups, but later noodles received the status of an independent dish with many cooking options. Very often, udon is served hot, as well as in soups and in combination with other products, such as fish fingers, tofu, tempura, soy sauce and others. Udon is thicker than other wheat flour-based pasta. The thickness, shape and recipe for preparing udon noodles are greatly influenced by the characteristics of the region in which they are consumed. For example, Inaniwa-udon is a thin noodle, while Dangojiru is quite thick and flat and resembles a dumpling.
