Product description from producer
Jorge Amadou (1912-2001) was a world-renowned Brazilian writer, public and political figure, and academician of the Brazilian Academy of Arts and Letters. He wrote the novel "Captains of the Sand" when he was only 25 years old, and at the same time it is one of his most famous works. It tells the story of a gang of homeless teenagers, almost children, who are called "sand captains" because their headquarters are the sandy beaches of the harbor. The lives of these beggars appear before us in every detail, sometimes funny, sometimes evocative at once. The author described his heroes as follows: "Dressed in rags, dirty, hungry, aggressive, they talk obscenities and hunt for cigarette butts, they are the real masters of the city, they know him to the end, they love him to the end, they are his poets."
The Captains of the Sand novel has been translated into 50 languages and is based on the film Generals of the Sand Quarries, which has become very popular around the world.
